Laterna Magica
2020 - ReUse Italy - Grottole
Competition Entry with Oliver Alunovic
An intervention comprised of opposing elements.
A hard one providing a space to enter, a sense of security and a soft membrane that is spanned between firm Elements, forming an Auditorium. The membrane is coloured, lit from within. It is seen from afar the enlightened fabric is framed by the ruins and the additional hard elements to form a visual negative of the original church.
Grottole has a strong over ageing population. The competition entry tries to establish an accessible platform for communal events. The organisation of the stages inside the concert hall is divided to allow a use of the whole space for large concerts and a subdivided smaller part of the concert hall, formed by the membrane, for smaller gatherings.
The concert hall will establish itself as a renowned place for the presentation of the arts. The colourful envelope of the performance space indicates when the space is in use. It will glow on the top of the mountain like a mountain fire, giving light to the surrounding landscape and forming a focal point.
